An IP rating indicates the degree of protection a device provides against solids and liquids. It is determined by the International Electrotechnical Commission and consists of two numbers. The first number represents the level of protection against solid particles (dust, dirt…) on a scale from one to six. The second number tells you how much water a device can handle without suffering damage and goes from one to nine — the higher the number, the better the protection.
