Echo Commander

Echo Commander is a unique co-op battleship game that you can enjoy either solo or with friends and family. This game stands out not only for its engaging gameplay but also for its commitment to accessibility. It has been fully designed for blind players with rich audio cues, an intuitive narrator, and support for cross-play on any device with a web browser.

One of the best features of Echo Commander is its browser-based gameplay. There is no need to download or install anything — just open your browser and dive straight into the action. With rounds lasting only 10 to 15 minutes, this game is perfect for quick sessions whenever you have a spare moment.

Accessibility Features

Echo Commander is crafted with accessibility in mind. Key features include:

  • Audio Cues: Essential gameplay information is provided through clear and timely sounds.
  • Narrator: A built-in voice guide helps you navigate menus, explains the rules, and keeps you informed about game events.
  • Cross-Platform Play: Enjoy the game on desktops, tablets, or smartphones — any device with a web browser is supported.

Gameplay and Battleship Rules

Echo Commander revitalizes the classic game of Battleship with a cooperative twist. Whether you are playing alone or with others, the core principles remain similar to the traditional game. Here is a summary of the basic rules:

Basic Battleship Rules

  • Setup: Each player secretly arranges their fleet on a grid. Ships vary in size and can be placed horizontally or vertically.
  • Objective: The goal is to sink all enemy ships by correctly guessing their locations on the grid. In co-op mode, players work together to locate and destroy the opposing fleet.
  • Taking Turns: Players alternate turns by calling out grid coordinates (for example, B4 or C7) in an attempt to hit enemy ships.
  • Hit or Miss: If a guessed coordinate corresponds to a part of a ship, it is considered a hit; otherwise, it is a miss. The game provides audio feedback to indicate the result.
  • Sinking a Ship: When all parts of a ship have been hit, that ship is sunk. The game announces this event through its audio system.

Echo Commander offers a fresh take on the classic Battleship game by combining cooperative gameplay with advanced accessibility features. Its browser-based design allows you to play instantly without the hassle of downloads or installations. With quick rounds that fit into any schedule, this game is ideal for both casual play and strategic sessions.

Whether you are a seasoned strategist or new to battleship games, Echo Commander invites you to command your fleet, strategize with friends, and experience the thrill of naval combat — all through the power of sound and thoughtful design.

Accessibility and User Comments:

This is an actively developed Battleship game with immersive sound effects and fitting music. Although a browser game, the developer's efforts have greatly improved it. The game is now fully playable on your Android device within a web browser. The game features Sona; simply press and hold on any coordinate, and Sona will tell you about detected ships in the left, right, above, or below directions of the selected coordinate.

You can use voice commands like "fire at B2" if you don't prefer swiping on the screen. Almost all control features are available via voice commands. You can also choose to use the game's built-in TTS or a screen reader like TalkBack or JieShuo if desired.

The game is still under development. I'm proud to be a beta tester. The developer releases daily and weekly patches to make the game better, and while this is the developer's first product, there may be flaws; however, he works daily to improve it and listens to player feedback. You can join the game's Discord server to find players, chat with the developer, or report bugs: https://discord.gg/HCvuCQarky
