Welcome to RayoAI, your accessible visual assistant.

This app helps you understand your surroundings through image descriptions powered by artificial intelligence.

1. Initial Setup and API Key

When launching RayoAI, you’ll see a welcome screen. If you don’t have a Google Gemini API Key, the app will notify you.

What is an API Key?
It’s a unique key that allows the app to communicate with Google’s AI services.

To obtain an API Key:

  • Go to Google AI Studio
  • Sign in
  • Create or select a key
  • Copy the API Key to your clipboard

To set it up in RayoAI:

  • On the welcome screen, tap “I don’t know how to get an API Key” for help
  • Then go to “Settings” (bottom bar)
  • Paste your key in the “Gemini API Key” field
  • Tap “Save API Key”

2. Main Features

RayoAI has two modes: image description and conversational chat.

Main screen (camera):

  • Switch camera: Toggle between front and rear cameras
  • Timer: Set a countdown (2–15 seconds) before taking a photo
  • Take Photo: Capture an image directly
  • Upload from gallery: Use an existing image
  • Share from other apps: Also possible

Description and Chat:

  • Initial Description: You’ll receive a detailed summary
  • Chat: You can ask questions like “Which colors stand out?” or “What is the person doing?”
  • Quick Actions:
    • Speaker: Hear the response aloud
    • Copy: Copy to clipboard
    • Share: Send the image to another app
    • Save: Save the image locally

History:

  • Review previous captures and their descriptions
  • Delete individual entries or clear all history

About:
Information about the app, developer, website, and donation options.

Settings:

  • API Key: Paste or change the Gemini key
  • Theme: Light, dark, system default, or high contrast (coming soon)
  • Text Size: Adjust according to your preferences
  • Auto-describe on sharing: (Coming soon) Automatically describes images received from other apps

3. Accessibility

RayoAI adheres to WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines:

  • TalkBack: All controls are properly labeled
  • Contrast: Themes meet visibility requirements
  • Scaling: Text respects the user’s configured size
