Accessibility and User Comments:
I can’t categorically say that the app was developed with accessibility in mind. It has some unlabeled buttons, though TalkBack can still describe them for you. These unlabeled buttons are found on the following screens and in the following order:
Upon launching the app, you hear a female voice reading the first part of the tutorial. In the middle of the screen is an unlabeled button, which functions as the “Play button,” allowing you to replay the tutorial voice.
At the bottom-left of the screen is the “back” button. To the right is the properly labeled “next button.” Swiping from the right edge of the phone towards the left to move to the next page does not have any effect, so you need to tap the “next button” at the bottom-right.
Once you’ve gone through these pages and reached the last one, you will find the “Start my Journey” button in the middle of the screen.
In the main UI of the app, there are no buttons near the top. However, in the middle of the screen, you’ll find a labeled “add file” button, and at the very bottom, there are two tabs. Starting from the left and moving right, you have: “Add,” “My files,” and “For you” on the bottom-right.
When tapping on “For you,” you are prompted to sign in. Once signed in, you can add books by importing them as PDF, ePub, .txt, etc. To the right of each imported book is an unlabeled button that TalkBack will describe as “more.” This is one of the unlabeled buttons.
Upon opening a book, there are four unlabeled buttons near the top. TalkBack will describe these buttons if focus remains on them briefly. Starting from the top-left and moving right, you encounter: “Back,” “more,” “Info,” and “Settings.”
The “Info” button provides details such as the format and length of the book. The “more” button, when tapped, includes options like “Rename,” “Move to Folder,” and “Delete.”
At the bottom of the screen are several media-related buttons, which are also unlabeled, requiring TalkBack for identification. Starting from the bottom-left and moving right, you have:
- “US” (or the country in use, with “US” being shown as the default in the United States). Tapping on this brings up a selection of labeled voices.
- The “Back” button.
- The “Play” button.
- The “Forward” button.
- The “Speed-changer” button, labeled and set to “1X.”
This app offers some great features, especially regarding voice selection, with several voices available in different languages. Some voices require a premium subscription. Without a subscription, background playback is unavailable, meaning you can’t listen to your books with the screen off unless you are a premium subscriber.
An account is necessary for syncing across devices.
