Accessibility and User Comments:

The app is mostly accessible. Tabs and UI elements are easy to reach and navigate. All the buttons on the player and main pages are properly labeled. As for accessibility actions, the app includes only one: previewing voices in the Voices tab.

The main tabs are located at the bottom and include: Home, Explore, the Import button, Library, and Voices.

The app offers free users 2 hours of listening each week and provides options to purchase additional hours or subscribe to one of the available plans.

One accessibility issue occurs when logging in with an ElevenLabs account—TalkBack is unable to read the text entered in the email and password fields. It is also possible to sign in with Google, which avoids this issue. Another issue is that the edit box used to paste a link is not recognized as an edit box by screen readers. However, it is possible to share links directly to the app without using the Import section.

The app includes a wide selection of AI voices with various characters. A few are available by default, while others can be added through the Voices tab. Once saved, these voices can be selected in the player when listening to content.

The actual text is not exposed to the screen reader, so it cannot be navigated. It is only possible to listen to the text through the app’s player.

Overall, the app provides an accessible experience and delivers a variety of high-quality AI voices supporting a good range of languages, despite reading hiccups that occur occasionally and subscription plans that are on the expensive side.

I concur with the reviewer’s observations. I tried it tout with a couple of PDFs that were invoices of a couple different types. As you might imagine with an invoice the content was highly tabular. The Reader valiantly tried to make sense of it all. I was rather surprised with some of the vocalizations, but overall I was able to glean the content of the documents. I’ll use the Reader for that alone. It parsed the documents to the same degree, with slightly different results, to the EnvisionAI handling of the same documents. I was disappointed to find that the reader did not show up as a share candidate for PDF documents in the “My Files” app after installing the Reader.
