Accessibility and User Comments:

Accessible with some unlabeled buttons and few issues

Accessibility and user comments

Unlike its iOS counterpart, Instagram utilizes no TalkBack or accessibility actions on Android, and that makes taking some actions on posts, reels or stories a bit more time-consuming. The app also has some unlabeled buttons though TalkBack can detect and read the label for most of them. Notably the Like/Unlike button in the Activity feed, also known as the Notifications feed, is an unlabeled button. The button which displays comments for each post in the Activity feed is also an unlabeled button, and TalkBack can't detect its label.

The Home feed is where stories, posts and reels are displayed, and the Messages and Notifications buttons also appear at the top of the Home feed. Posts and reels cannot be explored by touch easily as touching the screen, regardless of the placement of your finger, only shows one single post or reel. So you should flick left/right to move around them. The Action button for each post or reel is also placed to the right of it, and you can use it to like or comment or take other actions. As mentioned earlier, Instagram on Android could benefit from TalkBack actions but, like WhatsApp, Meta doesn't support them.

The app's major tabs at the bottom of the screen are Home, Search and Explore, Create, Reels, and Profile. When the focus moves to the Reels tab, Instagram starts playing the first reel automatically. to move to the next or previous reels with TalkBack, use the two-finger up and down gesture.
