Seeing AI

After much anticipation, Seeing AI has finally arrived on Android!

App’s Details

Developed by Microsoft, the Seeing AI app is specifically designed for the visually impaired community, offering a range of features:

  • Text Recognition: Enables users to instantly read detected text or guides them to capture a photo of a document for reading.
  • Image Recognition: Allows users to capture photos within the app or share images from other apps to obtain image content descriptions. Expands these descriptions for more detailed AI-generated descriptions by the “More Info” button. Additionally, allows users to explore images by moving their finger on the screen to identify the image elements.
  • Face Recognition: Detects faces and estimates age, gender, and expressions of individuals.
  • Product Identification: Enables users to scan product barcodes with the guidance of audio cues, announcing the product information once the camera captures the code.
  • Other features include a currency identifier, color detector, and light recognizer.

Notes:

  1. The app is simple to use, providing good explanations about included features.
  2. The user-friendly interface can be customized through settings to allow feature sorting and convenient shortcuts accessible via long-pressing the app icon on the home screen or in the apps list.
  3. The app tends to slightly overestimate ages in face recognition.
  4. Regarding language support, the app supports fewer languages for text recognition compared to some other popular apps like Envision. However, it supports more languages than Google Lookout currently does.
  5. The app conveys light detection exclusively through audio beeps without providing textual information to describe the current lighting conditions.
