Screen readers use sounds to indicate the presence of certain types of elements or events. Many users benefit from these sound effects and like to customize them to their liking.
Jieshuo screen reader enables the user to listen to sounds for many events and gives them the capability to create their own sound sets that are called “sound schemes”.
Here’s an easy way to create a sound scheme:
Steps to create a sound scheme:
1. Add the audio files you want to use for your sound scheme to a folder and put it in the sounds folder which is included among the folders inside the Jieshuo folder, named in Chinese as “解说”.
2. Go to “Jieshuo settings > Feedback settings > Sound scheme manager”, and tap “New”.
3. Now type the sound scheme name. It should be the same name as the folder you created and added to the sounds folder to let Jieshuo use this folder as the directory of the audio files that will be used.
4. Now you can customize the sound that should be used for each event according to your liking. Just tap the name of the event and select the desired sound from the list.
You can hear the sounds while you are navigating them by moving your finger, and when it reaches a certain sound, it will be played. Swiping doesn’t result in playing the sound. Note that some events are still in Chinese until the time of writing because the developer didn’t include them in the translations. When you select a sound for a certain effect or event, it will be played.
5. If you want to add more files to the scheme’s folder, you can tap “import” and wait for Jieshuo to finish scanning your device for audios. Then, select the audios you want. You can search for specific files or folder names, and while you are searching, the results will appear on the screen to select from them. Sounds are played as you explore them with your finger. After you are done selecting the audios you want, tap on “import”.
6. After creating and customizing your sound scheme, go back and re-enter “Feedback settings” to refresh the list of sound schemes. You should now be able to see your newly created sound scheme among the list of available sound schemes. Select your sound scheme to use it. If you wish to edit your scheme, tap on “settings” with your sound scheme name if you are using it. Otherwise, you can tap “Sound scheme manager” and select the sound scheme you want to edit. Make the necessary changes and go back.
Long-pressing a sound scheme in “Sound scheme manager” gives you the options to upload it to the server with “Share,” to send it with external apps with “Send,” and to rename or delete it.
