TalkBack Gestures

The following list contains all Gestures that can be used with talkback. Gestures are listed as they are available on a device that runs TalkBack 13 and Android 12.

Gestures with One Finger

Swipe up with one finger Set the navigation focus back or set the reading control up
Swipe Down Set the navigation focus forward or set the reading control down
Swipe left Previous item
Swipe right Next item

Forward and Backward Gestures with One Finger

Up then down Move to the previous reading control
Down and up Move to the next reading control
Left then right Scroll backward
Right then left Scroll forward

Angle Gestures with One Finger

Up then left Go to home screen
Up then right Open TalkBack menu
Down then left Go back
Down then right Open TalkBack menu
Left then up Overview or recent apps
Left then down Search on the screen
Right then up Smart Voice Command
Right then down Notifications

Gestures with Two Fingers

Tap once with two fingers Pause or resume speech
Tap twice with two fingers Play or pause the media
Tap and hold with two fingers Start or end the selection mode
Tap three times with two fingers Start reading from the next item
Tap three times and hold with two fingers Enable or disable speech
Swipe up with two fingers Scroll up, can’t be customized (by default, this gesture allows to scroll the screen on the lists)
Swipe down with two fingers Scroll down, can’t be customized (by default, this gesture allows to scroll the screen on the lists)
Swipe left with two fingers Scroll left, can’t be customized (By default, this gesture allows to change pages on multi-page views)
Swipe right with two fingers Scroll right, can’t be customized (By default, this gesture allows to change pages on multi-page views)

Gestures with Three Fingers

Tap once with three fingers Open TalkBack menu
Tap once and hold with three fingers Search on the screen
Tap twice with three fingers Copy
Tap twice and hold with three fingers Cut
Tap three times with three fingers Paste
Tap three times and hold with three fingers Not assigned
Swipe up with three fingers Previous reading control
Swipe down with three fingers Next reading control
Swipe left with three fingers Previous reading control
Swipe right with three fingers Next reading control

Gestures with Four Fingers

Tap once with four fingers Practice TalkBack gestures
Tap twice with four fingers Open TalkBack tutorial
Tap once and hold with four fingers Pass through next TalkBack gesture to apply a system gesture
Tap three times with four fingers Not assigned
Swipe up with four fingers Previous window
Swipe down with four fingers Next window
Swipe left with four fingers Not assigned
Swipe right with four fingers Not assigned

You can personalize the TalkBack gestures listed above according to your preference in Talkback settings, and define new functions for unassigned gestures.
