How to use chat locking and message editing on WhatsApp

Recently, WhatsApp has been introducing useful features and options. Among the newly added features are chat lock and message editing. Let’s explore how these two features work.

Chat Locking:

What is Chat Locking?

Chat Locking is a feature that allows you to lock specific chats. When you lock a chat, it is added to the locked chats folder, which cannot be viewed until you use your fingerprint.

How to Lock/unlocka Chat:

1. Open the chat you want to lock.

2. Tap the contact’s or group’s name or the person’s number near the top to open contact info.

3. Tap “Chat Lock”.

4. Here, you can tap “Learn More” to read more about the feature, and tap on the “Off” next to “Lock this chat with fingerprint” to switch it to “On”.

5. When you receive the message that this locking will only take effect on this device and not on other linked devices, tap “OK”.

6. Confirm your fingerprint.

7. Tap “View” to finish and open the locked chat.

To unlock a chat, go to contact info and tap “Chat Lock”, then tap the “On” next to “Lock with fingerprint” to switch it to “Off” and confirm your fingerprint.

Viewing the Locked Chats:

When you are in the Chats tab, swipe down with two fingers if you are using a screen reader. Otherwise, swipe down with one finger. If you are a Jieshuo user, you can also use the “Direct Scroll Down” function to achieve the same purpose.

Now, the locked chats should appear as the first item before other chats. Tap it and use your fingerprint to view the chats you have added there.

When you receive a notification from a locked chat, it will contain only the number of messages without the contact name and the message’s content.

Message Editing

:

It is common to type a message and realize, after sending it, that you made a mistake or want to change something in your message. After a long wait, WhatsApp is rolling out the ability to edit sent messages within 15 minutes of sending them.

How to Edit a Message:

1. Long-press the text message you want to edit or use actions if you are a Jieshuo user.

2. Tap the back key or the back gesture to close the reaction selector.

3. Near the top of the screen, find the available options and select “More Options,” which should be the last item on the right.

4. Tap “Edit”.

5. Edit your message and tap “Send”.
The word “Edited” will appear after the content of the message to let the receiver know that an edit has occurred, but there will be no notification to alert the person about the edit.

Notes:

1. If you cannot find the features described in this post, you should wait for the feature to be available on your device. It may take a while before both features are rolled out to all users.

2 If you want to lock opening the Whatsapp app, not only specific chats, you can do so using the desired option found in “privacy” section in the app’s settings.
