Jieshuo’s Time, Battery, Network, Location, and Lighting Announcement Functions

Jieshuo screen reader contains dedicated functions to announce time, battery level, network information, current location, and lighting conditions. Let’s take a look at these functions that are found in the Main Menu and can be assigned to gestures.

Current Time

When activating this function, Jieshuo announces the current time. If the phone is connected to the charger, the battery level will also be announced with the time. Additionally, if the stopwatch is active, or a preset timer is enabled, the elapsed time is included when executing the function.

Speak Time and Battery Level

Unlike the previous function, this function always speaks the battery level, even if the phone is not connected to a charger. While the current time function announces the current hour and minute, the speak time and battery level function announces the hour, minute, and seconds. Another difference between the two is that the stopwatch and preset timer activation don’t impact this function.

Speak Network Information

This Jieshuo function reads the WiFi signal when WiFi is connected, the carrier name, the type of signal (2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G), along with the strength of the signal. However, most of the time, it only reads the WiFi signal strength without reading the other information according to my testing. Note that the WiFi signal strength ranges between 1 bar and 5, with 5 being announced as a full signal.

Current Location

For this function to work, Jieshuo must be granted location access permission, and location services should be turned on. I don’t know the exact service the app uses to report the current area the user is in, but during my testing, I found it to be not that accurate, often giving a location that is about 20 minutes away from my real location by car.

Note that currently, the location result is copied when executing the function, and this sometimes interrupts the reading with the “copied to clipboard” notification. To read the result again, you can go to the clipboard history and find it there.

Speak Current Lighting

This function measures the current lighting using the phone’s light sensor. It gives you the measurement in lux and tells you the level of lighting, such as whether it is dark or dimly lit, etc. Be aware that the accuracy of the measurement can be impacted by factors such as whether the sensor is blocked or if it is directed towards or away from a light source.
