How to Use the Jieshuo Screen Reader’s Export/Import Functionality

Last updated on 10 October 2024

Finally, your Jieshuo is customized to your liking with assigned gestures, personalized settings, and a collection of sound schemes and extensions. However, it is time to change your phone!

Jieshuo screen reader offers a local backup for settings and gestures, along with a cloud backup feature. Additionally, a new export all/import all functionality has been added.

What is the Export/Import All?

The export/import functionality in the Jieshuo screen reader allows users to export the entire Jieshuo folder, including all assigned gestures, settings, schemes, and account information. This simplifies the process of transferring Jieshuo’s customizations and files from one phone to another.

How to use:

Export all:

  1. Open Screen reader settings.
  2. Navigate to “Advanced settings.”
  3. Activate “Backup and restore.”
  4. Select “export all.”
  5. A dialog will appear, informing you that a zip file will be created and saved in the backups folder within the main storage. Press OK to proceed.
  6. Upon completion, you will hear a success message, including the path of the created archive.
  7. Find the “send” button to send the file using your preferred app, such as Telegram or WhatsApp.

Import:

  1. After transferring the resulting zip to your new phone, either through the “send” option or by locating the file in the backups folder and transferring it manually, find the file and double-tap on it.
  2. When the “open with” dialog appears, select Jieshuo to open the file.
  3. A dialog will ask if you want to import the complete backup, warning that proceeding will overwrite all of Jieshuo’s files and settings. Press the OK button to continue and wait for a successful import.

Notes:

  1. To ensure Jieshuo recognizes the created zip for import, make sure it’s named “解说.zip” If the file name is modified, especially by apps like Telegram, rename it manually. Using “actions” and selecting “save” from the message options in Telegram can help retain the correct name.
  2. While the new feature is designed for transferring Jieshuo’s files between personal devices, it can also be used on the same device or to help others customize their Jieshuo. However, please remember that if you perform the export while logged in, your username and password will be included in the created Jieshuo copy.
  3. While the username and password are exported and imported, it’s important to note that the User ID will differ between phones. Consequently, this functionality is not the eagerly awaited solution for moving your license between devices.
  4. A copy of the zip may be saved in your Jieshuo folder within the download subfolder, especially if Jieshuo couldn’t import it due to a different filename or if the user canceled the action. Manually delete this file to save space.
  5. Before doing an export all, clean your downloaded resources to avoid large file sizes. Check the “download” folder in Jieshuo’s main folder and delete unnecessary files, especially if you download Jieshuo versions using Jieshuo itself, as these APKs are saved in the download folder.
