Power Management Settings in Jieshuo Screen Reader

In order for a screen reader to function properly, it should be given the privilege to operate in the background freely without being restricted by system battery optimization mechanisms.
However, at the same time, the screen reader shouldn’t be a battery hog. Jieshuo screen reader dedicates a section of its settings for power management called
“Power Management Settings.” To access this section, open “Screen Reader Settings,” then go to “Advanced Settings”.

Power Management Settings Options

Power Saving Mode

This mode is not enabled by default; however, it is highly recommended to enable it. Without enabling this option, you are likely to notice significant battery drain while using Jieshuo.
Even if you are not bothered by Jieshuo’s battery consumption, having this mode active is still recommended, as disabling it doesn’t improve the screen reader’s performance.

Prevent Killing the Screen Reader

Most users will not need to check this option because it is meant for devices where the system frequently kills Jieshuo, even when it is exempt from battery restrictions.
If you are not experiencing such issue, keep this option off.

Notes

  1. If the system continues killing Jieshuo even after enabling the “Prevent Killing the Screen Reader” option, try enabling the beta feature of using Jieshuo as a wallpaper service.
This option is located in “Advanced Settings” under the name “Use Jieshuo Wallpaper.”
It is rare to need this option, but it ensures Jieshuo remains active in the background when the system is overly aggressive.
  2. Since Jieshuo needs to operate in the background, it is highly advised to give it unrestricted access.
This should prevent battery optimization from limiting its capabilities or killing it.
Navigate to General Settings > Setup Wizard and tap “Check Ignore Battery Optimization Status”
to access the relevant system settings.
  3. Jieshuo has features that require working in the background and consequently use more battery, such as the timer, stopwatch, and speaking clock.
Extensions that are always active could also cause higher battery consumption.
It is important to consider these factors when evaluating Jieshuo’s battery usage and deactivate services you don’t use.
Additionally, reports suggest that disabling the Enhanced Accessibility Volume feature, found under
TTS Settings > Other Settings, conserves battery.
It is recommended to keep this option off unless you truly need it.
