How to use Finder on Samsung Galaxy devices

In this article, I’ll introduce you the Finder feature foundon Samsung devices. When searching for any content on Samsung phones, the function being used is called Finder. This is one of the features of the OneUI on Samsung devices. Let’s take a look at how to use Finder and make most out of it.

In order to access  Finder, you need to adjust the home screen layout so that the app drawer and the home screen layout appear separately. You can easily do this by following the settings>home screen settings. When you open the app drawer by sliding up with two fingers, the search area you see at the top is actually the button that opens Finder. When you press this button, the keyboard is displayed, and you can start typing what you want to search for. With that in mind, let’s look at the Finder options before performing a search.</p>

Finder options

When you swipe to the right once more from the voice search, the Finder options open with the more options, in other words the 3 dots menu.

Here you will find the following options when you tap settings:

  • Show recommended settings: Here you can view your most frequently used applications in list form.
  • Show search suggestions: You can display search suggestions as well as app suggestions.
  • Show screenshots: This feature is already self-explanatory.
  • Show search history: You can also see your previous searches.
  • Show hidden apps: This setting is switched off. You can exclude apps that you hide in the app drawer from the Finder search.
  • Add the Finder icon to the home screen. By clicking on this option, you can also display the Finder icon as an application. I will explain what exactly this does and how we can make use of this icon below:

Returning to the more options, right next to the settings, there is a menu where you can select the apps to search for.

Searchable applications in the Finder

  • Settings
  • Bixby Routines
  • Bixby voice
  • My Files: With My Files, you can search for any file on your phone directly in the Finder.
  • Internet browser: Edge is on my list because I use Microsoft Edge.
  • Galaxy Store: Samsung’s app store
  • Gallery: This helps you search for a photo or video within Finder.
  • Contacts
  • Messages
  • Play Store
  • Samsung Members
  • Voice recorder
  • Spotify
  • Calendar
  • phone
  • Youtube
  • Widgets

Note that this list may vary depending on the apps you use.

How to get more out of Finder?

You can start getting more out of Finder by following the steps below.

In Finder, go to More Options>Settings and tick the Add Finder Icon to Home Screen checkbox. This way, no matter which screen layout you use, you can now place the Finder as a shortcut on any home screen. There is also an adjustment we can make using Jieshuo to launch the Finder much more easily. When you add Finder to the home screen, it will behave like an app. You can then go to Jieshuo settings, operation settings>custom gestures, and define a gesture to launch Finder.

Here, from the gestures list, I picked three-finger swipe down gesture and selected app and then Finder from the list. Then saved the gestures by pressing back.

If you follow the same method and assign a gesture to Finder,  you will be able to launch the Finder with one gesture on the home screen. What’s even better is that the Advanced Braille Keyboard opens directly without any action. You can easily see the search results by typing what you wish and hiding the keyboard.

Assign a shortcut using Goodlock

You can also assign two finger up swipe on the home screen to Finder using the Home Up modüle from Good Lock. Here’s how:
• Download Good Lock from Galaxy Store
• Launch Good Lock and click on Make Up tab

  • Find and download Home Up modüle from the list.
  • Launch Home up and turn the switch on to activate Home up.
  • Swipe once more and click on home screen.
  • Click on Finder Access, open the Finder by swiping down anywhere on home and apps screen.
  • Choose home screen or apps screen. I have it set to home screen.

This will let you Access finder by swiping up with two fingers on your home screen whether you use TalkBack or Jieshuo. I hope you find this tutorial useful.
