How to set up and configure Wi-Fi hotspot on your Android device

Having access to the internet wherever you go is essential. Luckily, Android devices offer a convenient feature called Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows you to share your mobile data connection with other devices. Whether you’re traveling, working remotely, or simply need to provide internet access to friends or colleagues, setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot on your Android device is quick and easy. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the steps to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot on your Android device.

Enabling and configuring Wi-Fi hotspot:

Start by opening the Settings app on your Android device. You can find it in the app drawer or in the notification shade.

Scroll through the settings menu or use the search to find the “Network & Internet” or “Connections” section. Tap on it to proceed.

Within the “Network & Internet” or “Connections” menu, look for the “Hotspot & Tethering” or “Mobile Hotspot” option and open it.

In the hotspot settings, you should see an option to enable the Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot. Toggle the switch to turn it on. Some devices may require you to tap on “Mobile Hotspot” to access the settings before enabling it.

Once you’ve enabled the Wi-Fi hotspot, you can customize its settings to your preference by tapping on “configure.” You can change the network name (SSID) and password by tapping on the respective options. It’s also recommended to choose the security type, with WPA2 being the preferred option for better security.

Connecting to the hotspot:

With the Wi-Fi hotspot enabled, other devices can now connect to it. On the device you want to connect, go to the Wi-Fi settings and scan for available networks. You should see the name of your hotspot in the list. Tap on it and enter the password you set earlier, if prompted.

Once connected, the device will have access to the internet through your Android device’s data connection. You can now use the Wi-Fi hotspot to browse the web, stream media, or perform any other internet-related activities.

Disabling the hotspot:

When you’re finished using the hotspot, it’s recommended to disable it to conserve battery life and prevent unauthorized access. Simply go back to the hotspot settings and toggle the switch to turn it off.

Notes:

1. You may find the hotspot toggle also in quick settings panel.

2. Names of options and steps may vary slightly between devices and Android versions.

3. If you’re using an Android tablet, this option is only available with LTE supported tablets

Conclusion:

Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot on your Android device allows you to share your mobile data connection with other devices, providing internet access wherever you go. By following the simple steps outlined in this tutorial, you can easily enable and customize your Wi-Fi hotspot settings. Remember to keep an eye on your data usage, as tethering can consume a significant amount of data depending on the activities performed by connected devices. Now you’re ready to stay connected and share your internet connection with others effortlessly.
