Google Play Store, which is your go to source for downloading new apps on your device, also lets you automatically update the apps installed as long as any of your apps receive an update. You don’t really have to do anything to allow the automatic updates. They will get updated in the bacground unless you have a stable wi-fi connection. But there are times you like your app as it is and you may be worried that a future update might break things, it is easy to turn off automatic updates for a specific app on Google Play Store. Here’s how:
Turn off automatic updates
Do the following to turn off updates for the app or apps you like:
- Launch Google Play Store
- Go to the listing for the app you want to disable updates on
- click the more options button near the top right, and in that menu there is something called enable auto update.
Warning for TalkBack Users
The problem is that talkBack won’t tell you whether the checkbox is checked or not. So you will just have to assume that when you double tap on it it disables auto updates for that app.
You can then make sure it’s working, because if you go to manage your apps on that device and you hit update all, you will get a pop-up telling you that that specific app is disabled and will ask you if you still want to update that app or not.

Did this, but still, Reddit still shows up in the list even if the auto-update has been disabled. My Reddit install is actually a mod because I hate ads/promoted posts from showing up in my feed.
Indeed The app will remain visible in the updates list but won’t update automatically. If you accidentally press “Update all,” it will remind you that auto-update is turned off for that particular app. You can then tap “Skip,” and the other apps will be updated without any issues.
