How to Uninstall Samsung TalkBack (No Computer and No ADB Commands Required)

If you have a Samsung device running Android 11 or later, it comes with its own version of TalkBack, which can be slow and doesn’t get as many updates as Google’s version. Moreover, Samsung has recently restricted new TalkBack features to new versions of Android. I will show you how to uninstall Samsung’s TalkBack and get Google’s version without using ADB commands.

Steps to Uninstall Samsung’s TalkBack and Start Google’s Version

Before proceeding, you need to install:

Steps to Remove Samsung’s TalkBack:

Once the above apps are installed, you are ready to proceed with the process of uninstalling Samsung TalkBack from your device. Please note that after Samsung TalkBack is uninstalled, Google TalkBack won’t start automatically. So, it is recommended that you use another screen reader such as Jieshuo (CSR) so you can enable TalkBack without requiring sighted assistance.

  1. Launch Shizuku and give it the permissions it asks for.
  2. Open Settings, About phone, and double-tap build number 7 times to enable developer options.
  3. Once you have enabled developer options, go back to the Settings main page and activate Developer options.
  4. Find the wireless debugging toggle and turn it on.
  5. Activate wireless debugging and tap Pair device using a pairing code.
  6. You should receive a notification from Shizuku, tap Pair and enter the Wi-Fi pairing code and tap Pair to pair.
  7. If pairing fails, turn off wireless debugging, turn it back on, and enter the Wi-Fi pairing code again.
  8. Launch Shizuku and enable the use of Canta by selecting “authorized” then add the Canta app from there.
  9. Now, Open Canta.
  10. Tap the search button and type TalkBack to find it quickly.
  11. Tap the checkbox next to TalkBack’s name, then go back and tap uninstall at the bottom right of the screen.
  12. To launch Google TalkBack, go to Settings > Accessibility > Installed Applications, and turn on TalkBack. You can also set an accessibility shortcut to launch it.

Editors’ Note:

If you are using a device running One UI 6.0 or higher, uninstalling Samsung’s version of TalkBack won’t result in Google’s version appearing among accessibility installed services. This means that you have to assign it to one of the accessibility shortcuts from advanced settings within accessibility settings.
