Jieshuo Touch Focus And Double Tap Delays

Whether you are exploring the screen or trying to find a specific element, there is a delay between touching the screen and focusing on the element under your finger. Similar to TalkBack, Jieshuo screen reader allows you to change the value of this delay. It also allows you to set the time in which 2 taps are registered as an accessibility double tap.

The Customization

In order to change the touch focus delay and double tap delay values, you must first enable handling gestures directly through Jieshuo. To do this, go to Advanced settings > Operation settings and check the Handle gestures in the screen reader checkbox.

The next item in this section is for setting the touch focus delay value. Available values are 150, 200, 250, and 300 milliseconds. To change the time for double tap registration, select Double tap delay and choose any of the available values. The same values as those available for the touch focus delay are provided here.

In the same settings section, you will find an option called One-finger system gesture trigger range, with the following ranges: small, medium, big, and maximum. This setting defines the distance the finger needs to cover when performing one-finger system navigation gestures, such as swiping up from the bottom to go to Home.

Notes

1. If you set the touch focus delay to the lowest value, you should notice a difference in responsiveness, specifically when touching the screen, as it affects the time between touching the screen and focusing on the item that you have touched. However, this could affect the precision required when performing other gestures, like one-finger swipes, since Jieshuo could interpret them as screen touches.
2. Setting the double tap delay to a very short value might make it more difficult to activate items, as the time starts after tapping the screen when an item is in focus. If the 2nd tap occurs after the time ends, the 2 taps are not registered as a double tap, and thus the focused item is not activated.
3. There is no guarantee that handling gestures through Jieshuo will work as expected for you. It is important to test it for yourself by using Jieshuo with the option turned on and changing the touch focus and double tap delay values to see which settings suit you best. I have noticed that performing 3-finger swipes doesn’t work reliably on my device.
4. The one-finger system gesture trigger range might not work as intended on some devices. Changing the range to anything other than the default medium does not give the desired effect on my Honor device. I also don’t know if this setting works only when the option to use one-finger swipes to perform the gestures is enabled from the same settings section. This is an option available to paid users that allows them to use one finger instead of the required 2 fingers when performing those system gestures with a screen reader.
