WhatsApp is one of the world’s most popular chat apps. Recently, WhatsApp has added the ability to filter chats to display all, unread, or group chats. Here’s how to use the feature on Android. Note that chat filtering is not fully rolled out to all devices at the time of writing, so you may need to wait before being able to use it.
How to reveal the chat filters on WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp and go to the “Chats” tab if you are not there already.
- Swipe down with one finger if you are not a screen reader user or with two fingers if you are using a screen reader.
- The screen reader will announce that chat filters are revealed.
- Near the top of the screen, you will find “All,” which displays all chats, “Unread,” that shows chats with unread messages, and “Groups,” where group chats are displayed. Tap any of the filters to apply it, or double tap it if you are using a screen reader.
- Tap another filter to apply it.
- When you exit WhatsApp by going back and then reopening it, you will be returned to the default view of chats where all chats are shown, and you will need to repeat the mentioned steps to use filters. Moving to another tab in WhatsApp, like the Calls tab, and returning to the Chats tab doesn’t clear the selected filter.
