Tapping to Move Focus and Passthrough Mode in Jieshuo Screen Reader

The Jieshuo screen reader offers several modes for navigating texts and on-screen elements. Some of these modes are tailored for specific use cases and scenarios and may not be needed for most users.

Tapping to Move Focus

This mode allows users to navigate between items on the screen by tapping the screen in addition to normal swiping. Users can change the direction of movement by swiping right or left (if invert swiping is enabled) or up and down (if not). For example, swiping right will make tappping move to the next item, while swiping left will make it move to the previous item. To activate an item, users can double-tap anywhere on the screen. Gestures work normally in this mode. However, it is not possible to explore the screen by touching and sliding the finger to hear what’s under it.

Users can activate and deactivate Tapping to Move Focus mode from the main menu and assign a gesture to it.

Passthrough Mode

When activated, this mode allows users to tap the screen once to invoke a 1-second browse-by-touch pause. During this period, if a gesture or tap is performed, it is passed to the system to process it. Users can start a new pause by tapping the screen once again.

Exploring the screen works in this mode, as do gestures and the normal methods of moving and activating on-screen elements. Users can activate this mode via the main menu or by assigning a gesture.

Note

Users who are using Jieshuo versions prior to January 17, 2023, will find Tapping to Move Focus labeled as Disallow Screen Exploration, while Passthrough Mode is called Quick Clicking Mode.
