List of Unlocked Features and Options obtained through Jieshuo Premium Subscription

Jieshuo is a feature-rich screen reader with various options. However, some of its functions and customizations are locked behind a subscription to the Pro version. This post aims to provide a comprehensive list of all the additions that are included when purchasing the premium subscription.

Speech:

  1. The ability to select any of the TTS engines installed on the system as Jieshuo’s Text-to-Speech engine. This applies to the main TTS, secondary TTS, and Scenario Adaptive TTS configurations. In the free version, you can only use eSpeak or the system TTS.
  2. The removal of the limitation on the “Switch Currently Used TTS Engine” function, allowing it to switch between all available installed TTS engines instead of only switching between the system TTS and Jieshuo’s eSpeak version.
  3. TTS acceleration feature that increases the speech rate beyond normal speeds.
  4. The inclusion of IFlytek and Baidu Cloud TTS Chinese text-to-speech engines. note that Only Jieshuo+ has those engines in addition to the free Jieshuo eSpeak version.
  5. The option to let Jieshuo’s speech come out of the phone’s speaker instead of the Bluetooth speaker/earphones. Note that this feature may not work on most devices.
  6. The option to slow down speech while in “Character by character browsing mode.”
  7. The ability to add more than 5 entries to the dictionary and the custom symbol definitions list.

Gestures:

  1. Customizing one-finger unidirectional swipes (up/down/right/left).
  2. Utilizing edge and multi-part gestures.
  3. Applying per-app gesture schemes automatically.
  4. Assigning gestures to extensions, tools, voice commands, and timers. Functions created can be assigned to gestures. This limitation also extends to shake gestures. Launching extensions via gestures can be achieved indirectly using a function.
  5. Customizing right and left shortcut keywords. It’s worth noting that customization of these words is possible through custom translation.

Shortcut Keys:

  1. Customizing the short press of the volume keys.
  2. Customizing the long press of the volume keys on lockscreen.
  3. Utilizing double and triple pressing gestures of the volume keys.
  4. Per-app volume key pressing customizations.

Voice Dictation and Assistant:

  1. Appending the dictated text to the already typed text option.
  2. Initiating voice dictation when long pressing the text box.
  3. Activating functions from the selected gesture scheme using the voice assistant.
  4. Using custom voice commands with the voice assistant.

Text and Image Recognition:

All OCR and image description features are unlocked after subscribing to the Pro version. This includes subtitle recognition, screen recognition, focus recognition, image and scene recognition, etc.

Translation:

  1. Automatic translation feature.
  2. Translate current focus and copy the translation option. note that it is possible to enable the automatic copying of all translations from Jieshuo settings.

Character Number Limitations:

  1. Eliminating the 100-character limit in granular editing mode. Note that you can still bypass this limitation in the free version by pasting the text you want to edit after activating the granular editing mode.
  2. Removing the 100-character limit in the Full selection and full text editing modes.

Others:

  1. Using one-finger swipes to perform system navigation gestures option. Free version users can only perform the swipes with 2 fingers.
  2. List copying feature for copying entire lists or webpages.
  3. Adding more granularities to the “Select” mode that is found in the functions menu. In the free version, this mode allows for word selection only.
  4. Implementing automatic switching between per-app hotkey schemes for external keyboard customizations.
  5. Customizing cloud backup and restore.
  6. Saving notes to the cloud.
  7. Removing the restriction of assigning only one scheduled task.
  8. Adding the ability to include extensions and tools in the main menu.
  9. Enabling the autostart feature for user-selected extensions.
  10. Unlocking the enhanced detailed focusing mode, which allows for focusing on more items on the screen compared to the free detailed focusing available in settings.
  11. Improving the “Reading Mode” function to continue reading if it encounters one of the defined buttons to navigate to the next section or chapter. After activating the button, Jieshuo automatically continues reading the new screen. In the free version, the reading mode acts similarly to the “Read the Whole Screen” function and doesn’t proceed even if one of the predefined buttons is present.
  12. Using the automatic chat message reading feature. While users of the free version can activate the feature, they cannot add apps to the list.
  13. Enabling the use of unwanted controls, images, and strict web content filtering options available in “Content filtering settings.”
  14. Unlocking the feature to use swiping gestures to navigate and input suggestions while typing, an option present in “typing settings.”
  15. Downloading beta versions from the “Download additional resources” section. Free version users can still install beta versions obtained from other sources, such as those shared in Jieshuo-related groups.
  16. Accessing Jieshuo camera modes like text detection, face recognition, and image recognition modes.
  17. Enabling the use of the Current Per-App Gestures menu and Edit Current Per-App Gesture Scheme functions.
  18. Toggling the options to use direct click and display the current Per-App Gestures menu when using either the single-tap to activate or lift to activate features. These options are available in “Clicking settings” within “Operation settings,” and users of the free version cannot turn them on.

Notes:

  1. This post serves solely to list the unlocked features and options with the premium subscription. It does not aim to explain or comment on the usability of these features and options.
  2. If discovering or learning about any other additions or modifications, this post will be edited accordingly.
  3. Preparing this list wouldn’t be possible without external appreciated contributions.
