Samsung Unveils New Galaxy A Series Phones: A55 Gets Metal Frame, Powerful Processor and Flagship Camera Features

Samsung has officially launched its latest mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A35 and A55. The A55, the higher-end model, boasts significant upgrades over its predecessor.

A55: Metal Build, Flagship Power

The A55 is the first Galaxy A series phone to feature a metal frame, along with a glass front and back. It’s powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 1480 chip, the first mid-range Exynos with an AMD RDNA graphics architecture – similar to the chips found in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series. The A55 is also the first mid-range phone from Samsung to offer up to 12GB of RAM.

The phone features a 6.6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It boasts an under-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and an IP67 dust and water resistance rating.

The Exynos 1480 processor promises a 15% faster CPU and a 32% faster GPU compared to the previous generation. The phone comes in configurations with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, expandable via a microSD card slot.

The camera system has also received an upgrade, with a 50MP main camera, capable of recording 4K video at 30fps. Samsung says the phone offers improved low-light performance and better video stabilization. The phone will be available in four colors: Ice Blue, Green, Lilac, and Navy.

Galaxy A35: Modern Design, Improved Camera

The Galaxy A35 features a more modern design with a punch-hole selfie camera. It retains a plastic frame but upgrades to a glass back with Gorilla Glass Victus+ screen protection. The phone boasts a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and IP67 dust and water resistance.

The camera system features a 50MP primary camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. The 13MP front-facing camera can also record 4K video.

The A35 is powered by the Exynos 1380 processor, previously used in the Galaxy A54. It comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, expandable via a microSD card slot.

Software and Availability

Both the A55 and A35 run One UI 6.1 based on Android 14 and are promised four major Android OS upgrades. The phones offer the usual suite of connectivity options including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. They pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging.

The Galaxy A35 will be available in four colors: Ice Blue, Lavender, Lemon Yellow, and Navy Blue.
