What is the Jieshuo Screen Reader Max Version

When the Jieshuo Screen Reader developer announced the removal of the Tencent Cloud online OCR engine due to contract expiration, many international users experienced the impact immediately. Although it was not on the same level as some other international engines, Tencent Cloud supported many languages and delivered acceptable results. The Vivo online replacement could match neither the number of supported languages nor the accuracy.

To compensate international users for this loss, the Jieshuo developer integrated a new, larger offline OCR engine. Instead of adding it to the main Jieshuo+ version or releasing it as a separate extension, he created a new version called Jieshuo Max.

What is Jieshuo Max?

Jieshuo Max is essentially the Jieshuo+ screen reader, with one key difference: it includes the larger, more capable offline OCR engine. Compared to the offline engine in the + version, this engine supports a higher number of languages but comes with a larger file size. As a result, the Max version is more than double the size of the + version.

Should I install the Max version?

The answer depends on specific factors:

1. Free users: If you are a free user, you will not benefit from installing Jieshuo Max because all OCR-related functions are only available for paid subscribers.
2. Need for OCR: If you require an OCR engine in Jieshuo and noticed the absence of Tencent Cloud, trying the Max version might be worthwhile. If you already rely on the offline OCR engine in Jieshuo+, you could test the Max version to see if its offline engine provides more accurate results.
3. File size concerns: If you are not comfortable with the increased file size caused by the larger offline engine, it is better to avoid the Max version due to the significant difference in size between the two.

1. Apart from the offline OCR engine, Jieshuo Max and Jieshuo+ are identical, with updates released at the same time.
2. Installing one version replaces the other. This means that if you update your Jieshuo+ version with Jieshuo Max, it will be installed as an update that keeps your data intact. All your settings and licenses are retained. This makes switching between the + and Max versions easy, allowing you to install the version you need at any time.
